I Was Accused of Copying Someone Else's Code! 👨‍💻🙊

I was shocked when I was accused of plagiarising code on Reddit.

A while back, I posted about a project where I built a pan tilt-tracking camera using a Raspberry Pi.

I was so proud of my accomplishment that I decided to post on Reddit.

And, oh boy... I was met with backlash.

Many people on Reddit assumed I was copying from PyImageSearch because they had also released a similar tutorial.

But, they failed to notice a key difference.

I did my best to respond to the accusations and point out this difference.

I even pointed out to them that the PyImageSearch tutorial used a normal webcam and did processing on a Raspberry Pi.

Whereas, I was using the OpenCV AI Kit (OAK). Which had its own challenges and I built the code and trained the model myself.

I stated my case and challenged the accusers to go on a video call so that I could do a live demo and show my code. After that post, I didn't hear much from them. Some either changed the topic or just plainly didn't respond. lol

Anyway, leaving the drama aside. Let's talk about the actual tech.

What is the OpenCV AI Kit?

The OpenCV AI Kit or OAK is a device that can see in 3D, process images, and run AI models, thanks to its depth-sensing stereo cameras and a central 4K color camera.

So why did I use the OAK for my project?

The OAK can process AI on board so that the Raspberry Pi was free for other cool tasks.

Using the OAK, I was successfully able to build a Pan Tilt tracking camera to follow me around using a mobile-net SSD model.

Epic! What else can the OAK do?

It's a great option for Edge AI.
