How Can AI Be Deployed on a Device You Can Hold In Your Hand? 🤖🤏🏻

Apr 07, 2024

I ran an AI model on a device that fits in my pocket!

The first time I tried running some computer vision models, it was on a Raspberry Pi. But, it was slower than I had hoped.

I needed more power, and I found a solution that we'll get to in a minute. But first, let's talk about Edge AI.

What is Edge AI?

Well, let's see here. 🤔 An example is the best way to explain it!

Let's say you are flying a drone above a highway to identify, track, and monitor the traffic using computer vision.

You're in a pretty remote location, and the vehicles on the road are flying by.

So, you need your computer vision models to run inferences in real-time without internet and with limited power right there on the drone.

Thus, Edge AI is the answer.

Using edge computing, you can detect vehicles, track objects, and precisely count vehicles to analyze traffic, amongst many other applications.

Edge computing lets you run AI models locally on devices the size of your palm.

You can avoid the time and cost that cloud processing involves.

Also, what if there are no towers near you on the highway?

Without access to the internet, cloud computing would leave you helpless.

That is why edge computing is a lifesaver, and you wouldn't need to worry about it.

So, what does the solution I found have to do with Edge AI?

Edge AI is made possible by edge devices, and a Raspberry Pi is one of them. But I found a better option.

Jetson Nanos are the Lionel Messi of Edge AI.

They can handle a variety of vision AI tasks and are known for their exceptional performance with the power of Nvidia's parallel processing cores.

I was blown away when I started playing around with them and experimenting!

The possibilities are endless...

The Jetson Nano is affordable, supports CUDA libraries, and is compatible with TensorFlow, PyTorch, and other frameworks.

Best of all, it consumes only about 5 to 10 watts of electricity.

That's comparable to running LED lights to light up a small space.

With a Jetson Nano, you could easily monitor traffic remotely and in real-time.

Sounds great, but you might be thinking that it seems a little complicated.

Actually, with the right guidance, working with Jetson Nanos is a piece of cake.

Where can you turn to for the right guidance?

Well! It's your lucky day!

We are offering a course on AI & Computer vision on the Jetson Nano.
